One Lane on 28th Street to Be Closed June 24-26

The northbound lane on 28th Street between L and K streets will be closed Monday, June 24, through Wednesday, June 26, in order to install a new air handling unit and its supporting structure on the roof of Sutter General Hospital.

Here are details of the project and what will be affected, along with a map:

  • The northbound lane – the lane running alongside Sutter General Hospital – will be closed at L Street to through traffic. The hospital driveway in front of the lobby will still be accessible off of L Street, and, upon exiting, motorists will be able to turn right on 28th Street. The Sutter General Hospital lobby valet service will not be affected.
  • The Sutter Shuttle drop-off and pick-up will be relocated on 28th Street alongside Buhler Building/Sutter Cancer Center.
  • There will be detour signs to direct traffic. A construction worker (flagger) will be stationed at the corner of 28th and L streets and will only allow vendor delivery vehicles to safely pass through and park in northbound loading areas during the closure.

The new, larger air handling unit is being installed for the blood and marrow transplant unit located on the fourth floor of Sutter General. It will provide the required air flow necessary for the expansion of the BMT unit.
